Cleaning your Mac is not something people usually think of doing, it’s not like a Windows computer that you have to keep running defrag on to keep it running well. But, every so often it does indeed need to have a good cleaning or else it will start to have issues. What types of issues though? What would get you to consider, “how do I clean my Mac?”

Usually the issue is that your Mac begins to slow down. It’s just not as fast as it once was and that twirling circle, or beach ball as it is often called, keeps popping up signifying that you’re going to be waiting for a while for your Mac to do whatever you just asked it to do. Other things that you’ll also notice is that your Mac is having difficulty multitasking, especially when opening and closing different apps.

Cleaning it routinely will help to prevent it from ever freezing up or slowing down. You’ll also get a longer life out of it as you’re taking care of it before anything can get so bad or corrupted that it will no longer work properly. 6 Ways I Clean My Mac 1: .DMG Files Removal

Okay, first of all, what are DMG files and why should I remove them? DMG files are simply containers, also called Disk Images, that are used to transfer software (and apps) to your Mac. Basically, they are files of compressed information that you no longer need once you have downloaded a program and installed it on your Mac. They are now just taking up space.

Here’s how to remove these files on your Mac and clean it up:

Click on ‘Finder’ and ‘Downloads.’ Once you are in your Downloads, put your cursor in the search box and type ‘.DMG.’ You will see a drop-down list of suggestions, select ‘File Name” from the list. All of your .DMG files will now be showing and you can drag and drop each one to the trash. Or, to get rid of them all at once click ‘Command + A’ and drag them all to the Trash or Right Click each individually and send them to the Trash.

*Before removing .DMG files, be sure you already installed the program.
